Telluride sits at 8,750 feet above sea level, and the wedding venue and hotel are located at even higher elevations. At this altitude, there is about 30% less oxygen in the air compared to sea level, which can impact how your body adjusts—especially if you’re traveling from lower elevations. Once you arrive, it’s important to drink plenty of water, take things slowly to allow your body time to acclimate, and wear sunscreen, as the sun is much stronger at higher elevations. Please also keep in mind that alcohol can affect you more quickly at altitude—two to three drinks here can feel like four to five drinks at sea level. To help prevent altitude sickness, you can prepare for your trip ahead of time by hydrating and asking your doctor about prescribing Scopolamine patches. If you experience mild altitude symptoms like headache, nausea, or fatigue, taking ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) can help.
