Things to know before you go

ALTITUDE

Telluride sits at 8,750 feet above sea level, and the wedding venue and hotel are located at even higher elevations. At this altitude, there is about 30% less oxygen in the air compared to sea level, which can impact how your body adjusts—especially if you’re traveling from lower elevations. Once you arrive, it’s important to drink plenty of water, take things slowly to allow your body time to acclimate, and wear sunscreen, as the sun is much stronger at higher elevations. Please also keep in mind that alcohol can affect you more quickly at altitude—two to three drinks here can feel like four to five drinks at sea level. To help prevent altitude sickness, you can prepare for your trip ahead of time by hydrating and asking your doctor about prescribing Scopolamine patches. If you experience mild altitude symptoms like headache, nausea, or fatigue, taking ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) can help. However, if your symptoms worsen or do not improve, please contact the Telluride Medical Center at (970) 728-3848. It’s important to listen to your body and not ignore any symptoms. Your health and safety are the most important, and we want you to feel your best while celebrating with us!

WHAT'S THE WEATHER LIKE?

In Telluride, early October usually brings daytime highs around 55-65°F, with overnight lows between 30-40°F. The weather is generally cool and dry, with crisp mountain air, vibrant fall colors, and only a slight chance of rain or early snow.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

For Telluride in early October, pack layers you can peel off or bundle up as the temps swing from crisp mornings to mild afternoons.

The welcome party and wedding ceremony will both have indoor and outdoor elements, so definitely keep that in mind when planning your outfit. You’ll want layers you can easily add or remove as the temperature shifts,a jacket or wrap will come in handy once the sun goes down.
